Your Summer Workout Routine
Summer’s here! With it comes a mix of catching rays, smelling the roses… and a whole lot of schedule disruption.
For home and remote athletes, summer can feel like a double-edged sword. On one hand, you finally want to move more. On the other hand, your workout routine? Not feeling very “routine” these days…
Whether it's travel, guests, long weekends, or simply less structure in your day because the kids are out of school, it’s easy to feel like you’re falling off track.
Good news! You don’t need a perfect plan to stay consistent.
Reframe, rethink, refocus.
You won’t always have your equipment. Your usual schedule might not exist. Instead of chasing perfection, look for opportunities.
Here are some ideas to keep you moving, even when life gets a little less predictable:
Travel workouts: Use what’s around you. Hotel gyms, a park bench, your tailgate, stairwells, curbs, bodyweight workouts, or resistance bands.
Run (or walk) the beach: Nothing fancy. Just move your body and enjoy the view. My grandma regularly gets 16,000 steps in this way and she absolutely loves it! She’s recently leveled up to using a weight vest.
Paddle board or kayak rentals: Fun, functional core work with balance and variety.
Try a new hike: Explore a local trail or find a scenic one while traveling. Training that doesn’t feel like training.
Deck of cards workout: Assign a movement to each suit, draw a few cards, and you’ve got a no-plan-needed session. There are even pre-made decks like this!
Move with friends: Joy doubles when it’s shared! Plan sightseeing, trips, and visits around movement rather than in conflict with it.
New Season, new perspective.
Your workouts don’t need to look the same as they did in the winter. For some, maybe they will be. Some people will have the time and resources to push themselves more and use the mood boost from the weather to go harder. But if that’s not you, you’re not bad. You’re not doing it wrong. You just need to adapt.
Coaching can flex with your summer, too.
I help my athletes adapt around weather, goals, and schedules every day. It’s my job as a coach to meet you where you’re at and help you get where you want to be without it feeling like you have to uproot your life.
If you’re ready to keep showing up for yourself without having to obsess over it, apply for a coaching spot. Until then, try the tips above, and enjoy this new season.
